Quantum Theory, Consciousness, and Being

چکیده
In [NeuroQuantology 6, 46 (2008): arXiv:0706.4180], a certain natural phenomenon of self-observing consciousness was shown to be incompatible with the standard axioms of quantum theory. In order to consider a possibility of removing this inconsistency, which arises due to the separation between an observing party and a state vector being observed stated in the quantum theory axioms, we provide a conjecture where ‘being’, or existence, is identified with the experience of observing the state vector. That is, the observer is not observing the state vector in terms of the relative difference between reference frames, instead, the experience of observing the state vector should define the observer, or being. It is shown that the Heisenberg picture provides a natural description of this

Incompatibility between Self-Observing Consciousness and the Axioms of Quantum theory
Based on the standard axioms of quantum theory, we provide a counterexample which invalidates the full compatibility between consciousness and quantum theory. In particular, we present an example of a natural phenomenon in which an observer’s the mental state can be fully described in mathematical terms analogous to the state vector that is being observed. This mathematical description of the o...

متن کاملQuantum Physics and Consciousness: The Quest for a Common, Modified Conceptual Foundation
There are similar problems which keep reappearing in both, the discussion about the “hard” problem of consciousness as well as in fundamental issues in quantum theory. We argue that the similarities are due to common problems within the conceptual foundations of both fields. In quantum physics, the state reduction marks the “comming into being” of a new aspect of reality for which no causal exp...
متن کاملThe Theoretical Foundations for Engineering a Conscious Quantum Computer
Mind<>Computer: Attempts to mimic human intelligence through methods of classical computing have failed because implementing basic elements of rationality has proven obstinate to the design criterion of machine intelligence. A radical definition of Consciousness describing awareness, as the dynamic representation of a noumenon comprised of three base states; and not itself fundamental as genera...

This article arises from the remarkably multi-faceted book Brain and Being edited by Gordon Globus and others, hereafter referred to as B&B. It raises questions (though not unusually, few answers) about several related areas: the way in which quantum theory might endow the physical matter of the brain with surprising, though still essentially classical, properties; the possibility that quantum ...
